There is nothing I love more than a good tidy, especially when I have been stuck in my homes for a few weeks. I’ve heard of many friends clearing out their wardrobe and donating bags of clothing to goodwill. I’m often guilty of clearing out all my summer attire as soon as Autumn hits, only to realise I need something quite similar in my wardrobe once the next Summer season hits. This is because I love a minimal wardrobe that is also orgaised in categories and colour coordinated but I’ll leave that topic for another day.

I am predicting the below trends to emerge post COVID and I am hoping I can save some of your apparel pieces from a Marie Kondo clear out, stop have a read of the below trends and see if there is anything you can repurpose and  reuse next season.

Midi Lengths

Anything Midi length, I urge you to keep it. It’s a common trend over times of economic uncertainly that hem lines lengthen. Obviously the future is unknown in regards to our economy therefore dictating that the midi length will likely stay for another season. Think dresses and skirts, if you don’t like them anymore or they need a refresh take it to a seamstress and have a side split added.

Midriff

Although I see the Midi length staying for the next few seasons, over summer I am anticipating a comeback of some midriff style clothing. This midriff trend will give a nod to the 90’s nostalgia we are seeing at the moment. Also I can hear the cheers of everyone who has spent their entire time in lockdown completing pilates classes or various fitness challenges, yes summer will give you an opportunity to show off  your toned tums.

Before you all freak out and think I have headed in a Kookai, Nasty Gal, Missguided, Princess Polly direction, I haven’t. I’m talking discreet midriffs in the form of cut outs in dresses or cropped tees. Keep your 2000’s supre boob tube in the charity pile.

Versatility

Due to decreased spending for whatever the reason look for items in your wardobe that can have multiple end uses i.e a dress you can wear with sneakers or heels, a blazer, suit pants that can be worn in summer with some barely there sandals. There are many options for many wardrobe pieces to give them some new life, you just need to be a little more adventurous. Even if you are stuck for inspiration with an item, hold onto it and perhaps in the coming season you may see a retailer outfit something similar you already own.

Fabrications

With fewer purchases anticipated over the coming seasons you will be looking for fabrications that perform to keep you warm or cool. As a general rule of thumb sticking to natural fibres will ensure you are kept comfortable in your clothing. If you are unsure of what winter fibres are useful I have compiled some here. For Summer, keep all your cotton, linen, ramie, lyocell and silk.

Spesh Dress

Whilst I have been eluding to a more minimal wardrobe, keep your beautiful formal event dresses. Just between you and me, I think after 5 months of wearing sweat pants I believe there will be a number of Summertime events that will be a little more formal than normal. Future you will thank you.
